There are so many to choose from; why should I choose you as my therapist?

With so many choices out there, I know finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, and I'm honored you’re considering me.
The relationship between a client and their therapist is essential to healing. What I bring to that relationship is both personal and professional experience. My own journey through healing has shaped my approach as a counselor. These experiences taught me valuable lessons that can't always be found in a classroom, and they continue to guide me today.

In our work together, I’ll be warm, honest, and deeply present. I don’t believe a therapist should be a distant expert, but rather a fellow traveler who’s lived the struggle, is still doing the work, and is here to support you.
Additionally, I'm trained in EMDR, a research-backed therapy for trauma. It’s a powerful tool that can help reshape the way you experience painful memories and make space for growth, in an unprecedented shortened amount of time.

Over my 39 years, I’ve gained a broad perspective on life, having traveled to many states and countries. I bring with me a genuine respect for and interest in diversity, and a love for learning about others. I hope to use my experiences, knowledge, and compassion to support you in building a life you feel at peace with.

What can I expect in a therapy session?

Sessions are largely catered to you and what is presenting currently in your life. I may ask helpful questions and reflect back what I hear, but you will have most of the time to process. You can expect me to suggest new ideas and perspectives. You can expect me to teach you skills and strategies. Additionally, I can offer guidance in mindfulness, meditation and breathing techniques. Above all, you can expect me to be an interactive therapist.

If I had to put a number on it, a helpful ratio of therapist to client input could be 30/70%, respectively. This is not set in stone, however. During our first sessions we can navigate what ratio feels right.

Do you accept insurance?

I accept Cigna, Aetna, United and BCBS IL PPO.
I also offer sliding scale on a self-pay basis.
I accept all major credit cards and HSA.

How long should I plan for?

Sessions run 50 minutes.

Is there any work I can do before or after session to get the most out of my session?

Certainly. I recommend journaling and taking time to process and soothe after session. If you prefer, I can send you home with some writing prompts, mindfulness activities, self-soothing ideas and/or other "homework."
